Over the past few years, South Jersey’s wine industry has grown tremendously. From just a dozen or so fully-functioning wineries and vineyards in 2005, the region now boasts nearly 30, thanks in part to the federal designation in 2007 of the Outer Coastal Plain(2) as an American Viticultural Area (AVA)(1).
During the last decade and a half, a transformation has occurred, with numerous European-style fine wines from New Jersey grapes garnering national and international acclaim. Add to this a 300-year tradition of grape-growing and winemaking from native American grapes and local fruit, and if you don’t already think of South Jersey as a great place for wine, you soon will.

REDS AND WHITES AND FUN ALL OVER
South Jersey has so much more than just wine – and that’s what makes South Jersey wine country so great to visit! Planted right between Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore, the Outer Coastal Plain is a perfect add-on to a trip to the City of Brotherly Love, or Atlantic City and South Jersey’s beaches. But the truth is, there’s so much to do along South Jersey’s wine trails, that you might just want to save those destinations for another time.
Spend some time outdoors in the Pine Barrens – the first and largest National Reserve east of the Mississippi river, check out the attractions at the Camden Waterfront – with great views of the Philadelphia skyline, or pair your favorite South Jersey vintage with some rich history, arts and culture.
